The SideQuest Community Weekend planning train keeps on rolling! Today I have some exciting news regarding the charity auction (scheduled for Thursday 6 July 2017, at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Austin).
I am now taking on a much bigger role in organizing this year’s SideQuest events than in years past, but the charity auction will always have a special place in my heart. It’s where I really began my involvement with SideQuest, starting off as a Spectre a couple years ago. It’s also by far our biggest fundraiser of the year (the 2016 auction raised over $10,000 for our partner charities!). Each year I am moved by the generosity and love shown by our community, from the makers and artists who create magnificent items for the auction, to the big-hearted bidders who fight for those items, and to all of the attendees who give our Charity Gala the fun, inclusive atmosphere we all look forward to.
Let’s make it happen again this year. SideQuest is now officially accepting submissions for the 2017 charity auction!
- Do you have something RT-, gaming-, or otherwise nerd-related that would make a good addition to the charity auction?
- Perhaps your employer might be in a position to donate something to the auction in exchange for some advertising and free karma.
- Or are you feeling especially creative, enough to make something special (a painting, poster, sculpture, cosplay prop, clothing, doomsday device, etc.) that people will just need to bring back home with them?
To see what kind of items have been featured in past charity auctions, be sure to check out our Flickr page. Here’s a sampling of the items we featured last year:

Because we’re moving the Charity Gala to a larger venue, we’re hoping to have an even bigger list of items up for bids, which will hopefully translate to more money raised for children’s charities! But we can’t do that without your (or your artistically talented friends’) help.

If you have a submission for the auction, please fill out this handy Google Form, and we’ll get in touch with you on the next steps. If your submission is not quite finished yet (or isn’t even started), don’t sweat it. Go ahead and fill out the form anyway so that we know to expect something from you.
Thank you all so very much in advance. Can’t wait to see what y’all come up with this year!
